Curcumin, the principal bioactive compound of turmeric (Curcuma longa), has gained global recognition as a natural neuroprotective agent. Beyond its culinary and traditional applications, curcumin demonstrates antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-amyloid properties that are potentially relevant for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Huntington’s disease (HD). While most findings are derived from laboratory and preclinical studies, this article discusses the impact of curcumin from a non-laboratory perspective—highlighting its cultural, dietary, clinical and societal relevance.
